Goodwood Cricket Club

Project background:

The Goodwood Estate contracted ATB to complete the reconstruction of their 13 cricket pitches, including a deeper construction of a first-class pitch in the centre of the square. This will be used by Sussex county cricket when they use Goodwood as an out-ground in the future.

Due to a very fibrous surface layer (30mm) and a break in the construction of the square showing at 50-60mm in the profile the pitches were providing very slow and inconsistent bounce. For a number of years the club had received poor grading for the quality of pitch presented during league fixtures. ATB removed the fibrous top, cultivated down to the break in construction and re-lasered the base of the square before a deeper dig out of 100mm on the central wicket. Boughton county loam was then imported and installed to a depth of 100mm in the central wicket and 50mm across the rest of the square laser graded to required finished levels and seeded.

Key Works:

  • Assess, design, and implement re-construction of cricket square
  • Use of Korro terraplane and laser guided leveling equipment to produce a perfectly level square with required falls.
  • Construction of a first-class cricket pitch
  • Tie in new square levels with existing outfield
