Workshop Assistant

We are looking for a hands on, motivated, and experienced Workshop Assistant to join our company. The successful applicant will have experience in the maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of farming and construction equipment by performing welding, spray painting, and general workshop tasks. Ensure the equipment is restored to optimal working condition and finished to a high standard.

The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of working on a variety of tasks.

This is a very varied role with plenty of opportunities to get involved in various bespoke projects, no one day will be the same!

1. Welding and Fabrication:

  • Perform repairs and modifications on farming and construction equipment, including tractors, harvesters, diggers, and loaders.
  • Weld and fabricate components, such as buckets, frames, trailers, and other structural parts.
  • Conduct basic and advanced welding (MIG, TIG, ARC) on a variety of metals, including steel and aluminium.
  • Inspect welds to ensure strength, precision, and adherence to specifications.

2. Paint Spraying:

  • Prepare farming and construction machinery for paint application, including cleaning, sanding, and priming surfaces.
  • Apply protective coatings and paint finishes using spray guns and equipment to restore machinery aesthetics.
  • Ensure durability of the finish to withstand harsh environments, such as mud, rain, and heavy usage.

3. Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

  • Assist in diagnosing and repairing structural issues in farming and construction equipment.
  • Replace or fabricate worn-out parts to extend the equipment’s lifecycle.
  • Perform routine inspections of workshop tools, machinery, and welding equipment, ensuring proper functioning.
  • General servicing and maintenance of plant equipment / machinery including daily greasing.

4. General Workshop Duties:

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
  • Assist in loading, unloading, and handling heavy equipment and materials.
  • Ensure all activities comply with health and safety regulations specific to farming and construction environments.

5. Boiler Operation:

  • Operate and monitor biomass boilers fuelled by woodchip or straw.
  • Adjust controls to maintain optimal combustion efficiency, temperature, and pressure levels.
  • Ensure consistent fuel feeding.

Maintenance & Repair

  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of the boiler, feed systems, conveyors, and associated equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in the boiler system.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts, such as grates, valves and pumps, etc.

Fuel Handling & Storage

  • Ensure that fuel feeding systems are free from blockages or jams.

Qualifications:

  • Vocational training in welding or fabrication preferred.
  • Certification in welding techniques (e.g., AWS, CSWIP).
  • Training or practical experience in industrial spray painting and surface preparation.
